<image:caption>(they/them) SALSA | BACHATA | WALTZ | TANGO | FOXTROT | SAMBA | CHA CHA Elise is a queer dancer and dance student who is passionate about supporting other dancers to access partner dance in spaces where consent culture is paramount and gender-binaries are deconstructed and fluid. Elise believes that centering these values allows all partner dancers to focus on safe connection, creative expression, and embodied joy with community. Elise believes that sharing physical space and access to one’s body through partner dance is a privilege and that it should be treated with care and respect. They have danced various genres of partner dance since 2008, with their first loves being Salsa and Bachata. They have been an assistant teacher with Queerchata, and taught Queer Bachata and Queer Tango at Century Ballroom. They have danced and competed in West Coast Swing, and various Ballroom dances including Waltz, Tango, FoxTrot, Samba, Cha Cha, and Rumba. Elise loves learning new dances, as well as learning about their histories relative to the current moment in which these dances are being accessed as vessels for creative expression and connection. They believe that dance can be a healing space for self-embodiment, collective learning and unlearning, and a unique and powerful microcosm in which the dance community can apply restorative practices that support collective liberation--something Elise is currently learning more about themselves.</image:caption>

By 2011, he began taking his training more seriously and has been dedicated to learning and growing ever since. Jose’s favorite styles to dance and teach include Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, and Merengue—dances that not only connect him to his roots but also let him express himself in a meaningful way. In class, Jose loves creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and staying engaged. He believes that teaching is a two-way street—those thoughtful questions often lead him to new insights and keep the learning going for everyone, including himself. For Jose, dancing is more than just steps and music—it’s a way to share feelings, connect with others, and unwind. Whether it’s bringing joy, energy, or just a much-needed break from the day, dance has always been a big part of his life.</image:caption>

<image:caption>(she/her) KIZOMBA | TARRAXINHA | TWERK For Marietta Villalobos, dance is a first language—movement flows through her as naturally as words. As an instructor, she is known for her meticulous attention to detail: hip alignment, ankle angles, and the subtle mechanics that transform rigid steps into effortless flow. Since discovering Kizomba in 2007, Marietta has trained dancers who have gone on to become teachers themselves, specializing in both lead and follow roles. Her teaching style blends body mechanics with artistry, often earning her the nickname “part physical therapist, part dance coach.” Whether guiding students through the sensual rhythms of Kizomba or the high-energy release of Twerk, Marietta focuses on building body intelligence—not just memorizing steps. With her guidance, dancers move smarter, feel stronger, and connect more deeply—with both their bodies and their partners.</image:caption>

What began as a personal passion and hobby has become his way of celebrating culture, heritage, and connection through music. Drawing inspiration from Angola’s rich traditional rhythms, Josimar seamlessly blends them with the smooth, soulful grooves of ghetto zouk from Cape Verde, echoing the shared heartbeat of the PALOP nations.
